UN hails Kuwait's role in reducing poverty worldwide
KUWAIT-- United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Coordinator and Kuwait's Resident Representative Tareq Al-Sheikh praised Monday Kuwait's diplomacy in reducing poverty around the world, in cooperation with other UN agencies.
In a press statement, Al-Sheikh made his remarks on the 55th anniversary of Kuwait membership in the UN, stressing that Kuwait's diplomacy has been constantly supporting UN institutions.
Al-Sheikh added Kuwait has been unbiased in its humanitarian role and helping those in need, whether displaced or poor people due to wars or natural disasters.
The official noted that for 55 years, Kuwait has been the main defender of the Palestinian case, and Palestinian rights to return to their homeland, asserting its respect to UN resolutions in this regard.
Kuwait also provided tremendous aid to Iraq after wars and destruction, ignoring the past and looking into a better future with all, Al-Sheikh said.
Al-Sheikh mentioned as well Kuwait's commitment throughout the years through periodic reports to UN economic and social councils, in addition to UN human rights council.
